Microsoft Outlook 2010 : Using Alerts and Mobile Features - Setting Up a Text Messaging Service

1/27/2012 2:57:22 PM
If you have an SMS service account, you can configure that account in Outlook so that you can send text messages from Outlook. This practice is handy when you’re in front of your computer most of the day but still need to send text messages to colleagues or friends. You also might find it easier to compose the text message in Outlook, thanks to your computer’s full keyboard. The first step in sending text messages from Outlook is to set up the account.

1. Add an Outlook Mobile Service Account

  1. Click File.

  2. Click Account Settings, and then click Account Settings.

  3. Click New.

    Note:

If you don’t already have an Outlook Mobile Account, click the Find A Text Messaging Service For Your Mobile Operator link on the Account Settings dialog box. Your Web browser opens on a page at the Microsoft Web site, where you can choose a provider.

  4. Click Text Messaging (SMS).

  5. Click Next.

  6. Enter the service provider’s URL.

  7. Enter your user ID for the service.

  8. Enter the password for the ID.

  9. Click OK.

  10. Click Finish.

  11. Click Close in the Account Settings dialog box.
